These monitor speakers are designed to produce a flat frequency response, which makes them perfect for use by audio professionals or anyone else looking for true and accurate audio reproduction. Powered by a built-in audio amplifier, these monitors can be used anywhere AC power is present, while magnetic shielding ensures that they will not interfere with computer monitors or television displays.

The master speaker contains the controls, connections, and built-in 30 watt amplifier (15 watts/channel). It connects to an audio source using L/R stereo RCA jacks. A 3.5mm jack on the front allows you to connect a pair of headphones, which disables the speaker output. Another 3.5mm jack on the front allows connection of an auxiliary audio source. A Bass Boost switch on the back of the speaker increases low-frequencies by 3dB, for improved volume and greater bass presence. The second speaker connects to the first using standard speaker wire.

The tweeter is a 1" silk cone design with magnetic shielding and internal damping. The 3" paper cone woofer is coated in polypropylene to produce a flexible, but incredibly strong, speaker that is capable of both accurate reproduction and loud volume levels. The woofer is magnetically shielded and uses a high-temperature voice coil, so it won't fail under heavy use. The drivers are covered with a protective grill, making them easier to transport and better for use in rough environments.

Let me start by saying that I am NOT an audio expert nor do I want anyone to be lead to believe this. I am simply a man who has spent many weeks tracking down the ideal speaker solution for his home office/media room. My journey began with the woman of the house screaming over the "large" speaker setup in the living room. Granted at 3" tall my 3-ways with 12" woofers are not discrete. The first and obvious choice was to install in the office and buy some 5 point solution for the living room. As my research began I saw many excellent bookshelf options from the Daytons to Micca all the way to Energy and even Klipsch. Now I hit a wall when I removed the "large" speakers and she complains the TV sound is no good now. So now I need an amp, for my office, and speakers.

Class-T amps. Loads of research and almost pulled the trigger on once again the Dayton dta-100a and then thought maybe a Topping. Each time items loaded in my cart but just couldn't do it. I want to hear what I am paying for essentially. No leaps of faith. No amount of reviews. I want to hear it first.

Well, it simply comes down to I cant hear most of these systems first as they are not sold locally or at least anywhere close by.

Back to the review boards, back to reddit... more research. Everyone on a budget keeps circling back to the class-t setup with Micca B42. But now the Micca is out of stock. Great.

Finally! A friend shows me 2 self powered options from Monoprice! I know monoprice, used them for every wire in my house/car/wherever. But had never tried their self branded electronics. The 3" and 5" self powered options both under $200 and both with excellent reviews. Finally decided to take the step and got the 3". Packaging is ultra minimalistic. The Speakers have some weight to them and look great. At less than a foot tall they actually are a great desktop accessory.

Wonderful. Highs dont crack. Lows are as I expected from a 3" but don't distort. I pumped everything from Gonzales to Deep House and am very pleased with the results. Clarity is great.

I would highly recommend these to someone looking for a budget solution in a self contained, small, good looking package. If you need more depth then go for the 5".
