Samsung BP94-02084A BP9402084A MAIN DIGITAL Board Assembly with COMPONENTS Review
I have a 50' Samsung DLP TV Model HLR5067W. About 2 years back, the TV started giving the problems I've mentioned below and since my warranty with Samsung expired, Samsung Electronics washed their hands saying that they cannot do anything to fix the TV and that I had to take it to a service center. I did not take it to the service center since I know that it would be very expensive.Issues I had with my TV
1. HDMI won't work and upon removal of the back cover and on the digital board [Model#: BP04-02084A for my 50' DLP TV HLR5067W], I found that one of the HDMI pins on the board came out of the soldering and there was no way to fix that. So for the last 2 years, I had to use the component video input that is in the analog board of the TV and that worked.
2. As soon as I turn my TV on, I would get white rectangular figure and to get rid of this, I'll have to hit the source button on the TVs remote and get my source back to Component1 even if it was already on Component1. Everytime I turn the TV on, this problem seemed to persist.
3. Once in a while (not all the time) I'd get vertical rectangular bars evenly spaced across the screen. Sometimes the height of the vertical bars were from top to bottom and other times they were from short, about 4-5 inches high. So, I had to switch the TV off, then wait for sometime for the DLP bulb to cool off and turn it on again to get rid of the bars. Sometimes this trick worked, sometimes it didn't.
4. Recently, every time I turned the TV on, after about 5 minutes, I'd get a partially transparent green horizontal rectangular bar across the TV.
All these issues were so annoying.
I thought that this is it, the TVs life has come to an end and started looking for newer TVs. Then, I realized that many consumers had posted similar issues in blogs and forums on the net for similar Samsung models and they all pointed to a bad digital board (This is the board where the DNie chip is and also has the the HDMI input). Apparently, per the blog sites, the DNie chip on the digital video board on these Samsung DLP TVs were faulty and that was the cause for all the display issues.
So, I decided to take a chance, spend $240 and change this board. I bought it at Amazon (sold by Datawarehouse Parts) and here's the link to the part [link removed by amazon - But you can search for the part # I've mentioned above]. I replaced it myself and it fixed all the issues I've mentioned above.
Please note that the digital board comes inside metal case when shipped. The digital board is inside this case and you do not have to remove this case to install it. All I had to do was to take the existing (old) metal case that had the digital board out from the TV and replace it with the one I received from Amazon. I got the part within 3 days of ordering.
When I opened the back side of the TV, this component was on the left side if I was facing the TVs back side. I turned the TVs power off, pulled all the wires that were connected to the analog board (The analog board is on top of the digital board above the metal case and this is the board that has the analog inputs like component video, s-video, RCA inputs et al). Before removing the wires, I noted down in a sheet of paper what cables I pulled from where on the board. Then, Pulled out the case that holds the analog and the digital boards. Pulled out the 3 cables that are connected to the digital board from the analog board (back side of the analog board to the back side of the digital board). Slid the metal case that hosts the digital board out. Inserted the new case I received from Amazon and plugged back all the wires I removed before. Finally, I put all the screws back and closed the back cover.
It took about 15-25 minutes to remove and install. It was so easy and worth the effort. Saved me tons of repair $$$.
IMPORTANT: Before installing the new digital board, I went into to service mode (mute + 1 + 8 + 2 + Power button one at a time) and noted down a few numbers. 1. Actuator Gain value. 2. All the The Red, Green, Blue, Magenta, Yellow, any other colors values from the CCA menu and then 3. The Index delay value.
After replacing the old board with the new board, I turned the TV on and entered into the service mode (Press Mute, 1, 8, 2, Power button one at a time). What you'll see is a mirror image (inverted) of the service menu. I scrolled down the menu and selected the value for one of the menu items that had a value of "Samsung". Upon just selecting that, the inverted picture came back to normal. Then, I entered the values I previously copied from the bad board into the new board in the appropriate menu items.
That's it!! I turned the TV off. Waited for a minute and turned it back on to be so happy to see the TV work and back to how it was when I originally purchased it:)
Good Luck!
