Lenovo H405 77231KU Desktop (Black) Review

I did quite a bit of research looking for a new computer. I kept running across the Lenovo brand and not knowing much about them lately reviewed the specs against many others and all in all the price and specs came in more bang for the buck. I was trying to find a computer with a true video card, but when I did either the rest of the specs seemed lower that I wanted or the price way too high. SO I settled on this one and received it today (2 days from order, fast!) Opened it up and it started right up, went into registration mode quickly and was ready to install programs in less than 10 minutes.

Bloatware... very little. Comes with McAfee, and some Lenovo recovery software and a couple other Lenovo products, none of which seem to be overly invasive or take up much space. It's a 1 TB system, it shows 906gb listed. It does have a basic MS Office Starter. It is a basic Word and Excel, with MS Ads, but it's free and not a trial, so that should do it for me, since I use mostly Adobe products. Very happy with the speed of the system. It also has a "boot analyzer" which I am not familiar with however it has allowed me to optimize the boot to 29 seconds. I hope it will stay that fast, lol.

The keyboard and mouse are as expected, ok, not super high quality, but I rarely care about things like that since i have great versions I will use. The kb is a bit spongy for me and seems to take more effor than it should, lol, but the mouse is decent and comparable to my logitech. The case is wonderfully done, piano gloss black with red accents. Very slick looking with 2 usb's up front, mic and speaker/headphone and SD slot. The case was small enough to fit ON my desk and not be in the way, but large enough to expand, and in the back a cover comes out easily to add a video card. I would say the power supply is the only thing lacking in this, if I do any upgrades, like the video card I will likely be upgrading that, but if the systems stays as is I have no doubt it will work just fine!

The onboard video seems to be doing very well so far. It has a VGA and HDMI. I did think it was a DVI and HDMI when I ordered, but I have double checked to see if that's the case, however I hooked up both of my monitors up, 24" and my 22" and it powers them just fine without any fine tuning, upon first boot both worked at max resolution with no blur or drag. I also started up an HD Movie file, and installed a program at the same time and it played without missing a beat. My plans are to add a true video card to this machine, although at this moment, I'm wondering why. I'm not a gamer, but work quite a bit with photos and design and some video editing, so I will see when the video editing starts if I notice the need. I do plan to run PLEX on this system feeding my movie and tv collection to my Roku. I also use Zumocast to feed movies to my motorola phone, and I will say that it seems to feed the files quicker to my phone over the wifi than my last system. Instant start vs. having to wait about 30 seconds prior.

Overall I HIGHLY recommend this system as a mid range great priced machine. After I get it loaded down with software I will update. I paid $469 for this and everything else close in specs was over $500. Grab it while you can!
