I don't know who is running this company, but they need me to promote their product because I could not find anything anywhere that explained what was going on with this particular version of the clickfree. I had no choice but to buy it and hope for the best.First, yes it will fit into your credit card slot in your wallet. I know, I think that is hard to believe but it does. I actually dropped it on concrete from about 4 feet and it survived. It's solid.
Second, the USB is built into it. I know, amazing. OK, though, when you get it and slide the USB out, you are going to want to send it back, because the actual connection thing is not much thicker than a ribbon and it looks flimseeee. But I did not want to go to all that trouble and I have now used it for two weeks and I like it.
I wrote a review about my big click free and my gripe was that it was bulky if you want to carry it every day. This definitely is not a noticeable addition to your computer case or even to your wallet.
And the clickfree works. As I said, I started with the bigger block type and now I just leave it at home. I like having one at home and one with me, because my documents are very, very valuable and if something goes wrong either place, I'm good.
You plug it in and that's all you do. It knows what to update and it does it automatically.
I don't have a MAC but the booklet says it works the same with a MAC.
I kept having crashes and losing stuff last summer and that is just more painful than anyone knows---unless they do know.
Now I make it a habit to plug in one of my clickfrees before I shut down my laptop and I have not lost a thing. It's a habit now. There's no dragging and dropping, just stick it into your USB and it knows what to do. EVERYONE should have one.
I did see that they have some sort of converter to use with your thumb drives, which looked pretty cool and was cheap---$25. I got this one because I could get it fsster. But that one interests me, too. I'm just not sure about the size and if you get nothing else from this review it's that this company tells you squat about what you are buying. Nada. And the product is good, so it makes no sense. People are always looking at mine and asking what it is---I have sold a lot of these---like I said, they need to hire me.
My ONLY complaint, is that I wish it was password protected to retrieve your material. That's it.
UPDATE: after 3 weeks I have another comment. This credit card is easy to lay down and forget---I really wish now that it was password protected. I do not want anyone getting into my documents.
Secondly, and this is a big gripe, I was using someone else's computer and I wanted to print a document so I whipped out my clickfree and put it into their usb thinking I could select a document and print. BEEEE CAREFUL!!! I ended up backing up their whole system on my clickfree. I'm sure there is a way to stop that, but I had to just clean the whole thing and then plug it back into my laptop, because it was impossible to sort out their stuff from mine. I'm sure there's a way to stop it, at the get go, but just make sure you do that or you will end up as I did.
And it made me want the little $25 transformer (You use to convert your usb thumb drives to click free backup) because in this instance I could have taken the transformer off and just used the USB thumb drive to print my document. Still, I really do like the portability of the credit card, I just might get the converter too. BUT PUT PASSWORD PROTECTION ON THIS, CLICK FREE PEOPLE, IF YOU ARE READING THIS!!!
ANOTHER UPDATE: I truly do not work for these people---again, they should pay me because this is a great update. I called them and they are making SD cards for backup---so cool. It will be right there in your computer and guess what---they are going to be password protected. She said they should be available this month. She also said they would work on password protecting the credit card and that should be available. Apparently it's a small company---I truly felt like I was talking to the person who was making the thing. LOL
ANOTHER UPDATE: I live in two places and when I move back and forth between the two, I lose everything. I forget what I have packed and I can't find stuff etc. etc. I just recently moved and I could not even find my netbook, which was fine, because I do not like that tiny screen. So I was going to get a new laptop anyway, but guess what---I did want what was in that netbook. A ton of stuff. And that made me panic. I couldn't find a flash drive either---uh, yes, the one I wanted was in the case with the netbook, wherever. Then one day I was pulling out my credit card and I saw my little credit card flash drive. YESSSS! It is always with you. You cannot lose it. I LOVE IT. I really think this is an awesome invention, especially if you (due to no fault of your own, of course) cannot keep track of your life.
4/11/12 UPDATE: I bought the 32 size and it is password protected---I don't think it is in that description.
