This ATI video card allows my seven-year-old Dell desktop PC to run four wide-screen 22-inch video monitors at the same time as if they were one giant screen. This is an amazing feat, because it's difficult to find a quad video card that will run this many monitors without over-taxing the wimpy power supply in such an old machine.

I'd originally tried to get a quad video card from Dell. That was a nightmare. Dell sent an adapter that didn't work and a set of cables that were incapable of being plugged into the adapter. I spoke with probably a dozen Dell representatives. Most of them simply didn't know for sure whether or how to hook up four monitors to their own machine. Several others claimed that it couldn't be done because the power supply lacked the wattage. Still others said they knew what part I needed -- but their advice turned out to be wrong.

Finally, in frustration, I called ATI directly. Within moments -- without having to register, pay money, or spend ten minutes spelling out vital statistics -- I reached a knowledgeable and articulate technical support person. He understood my problem immediately, clearly understood the pertinent technical issues, and immediately specified the precise model of quad adapter I needed. It took only a few more minutes to order it from Amazon.com.

With Dell, I wasted 15 hours, with no results. With ATI and amazon.com, the whole process of finding out what to order and then ordering it took no more than 15 or 20 minutes.

Installation was quick and easy and the card has been working flawlessly for seven months, with no apparent ill effects on the PC.

I wish this card came in AGP format instead of PCI. Instead of installing this device in the AGP slot vacated by the original video card, I had to free up a PCI slot by pulling out a PCI modem and replacing it with an inexpensive external USB modem. That added a few dollars to the cost, but it was well worth it. Everything now works and I have four monitors. There's such thing as too much screen area!
