Toshiba Satellite PSK2CU-0K101S P3200 Review

I was in the market for a new laptop for school that I could pick up for a good price. I ended up narrowing it down to a few models in the $400 - $500 range with a 15.6" display. I ended up getting the Toshiba Satellite L655-5150 at Best Buy for $450, but seriously considered a few others. The Toshiba had 4GB of RAM, the most offered in this price range. The hard drive was only 320GB, but for me that is plenty. I have 2 TB of external drives I use to store videos and archived files on. If hard drive space is more important to you, you can find models offering 500 GB in this price range (The Gateway NV5105u is one I was considering.). The Intel P6200 processor is good, but not necessarily the best offered in the range (The Dell Inspiron I15R-1197MRB comes with a 2.4GHz I-3.). The inclusion of a number pad on the keyboard was a big selling point for me, and the overall aesthetics of the computer are good. Setup was extremely easy and the computer came with very little bloatware installed on the system. I am happy with the Toshiba, but there are several contenders in the "value-priced" laptop category. I think my second choice would have been HP's G62-457DX for $400.

I ordered this in march after my 4th gen. Ipod hard drive died. It worked fine and everything when I got it, I even had a three month warranty on it. But two months following the warranty expiring in June, it started clicking and making the same noise the hard drive it was bought to replace had been doing. I don't know if it was a glitch, a bad drive or what but I will not be wasting another $40.47 on another hard drive or anything for that matter on it.

Just for your information, hard drive may be defective, but if you have a weak power supply or battery, you may get the clicking noise that you've mentioned.

I already wasted $40 dollars on a hard drive from them, I knew my warranty was past but most places have a lemon policy. As for my battery it was fully charged to begin with and their comment as you can see is more or less we are sorry that we sold you a defective hard drive but since its after the warranty sorry about your luck. Here is another we can sell you... " I bet they also have a bridge in Brooklyn they probably like to sell me as well...

This processor is a barn burner, but be careful what software you have installed before you make a go of it. Linux kernel 3.2 is just barely stable, and 2.6.X variants are unusable. When a 2.6 kernel does manage to boot all the way, it rarely runs more than a minute or two before full system lock up. 3.2 kernels will run stable, but only after you disable all the trick goodies that this processor brings to the table, such as turbo and other things. I haven't had a chance to run a 3.4 kernel yet, but that's next.

If you're upgrading an existing system, upgrade your kernel first, then install the new processor.

Epson Artisan 837 WiFi All-in-One Printer Refurb Review

I bought the 835 first because it had wireless. Not very easy to use with Apple gear. Sure there are workarounds, but it is supposed to be easy. The 837 comes along and after 2 minutes of set up, including some plastic carving to accommodate the bulk ink setup I installed, it is rocking the house. Two-sided prints, bulk copy 12 documents with auto feed, print a glossy color photo, scan a letter... It is all here and more (no land lines so we cannot use the fax feature). I have had this working for several months with printing and scanning every day without any issues.

Tuff-Luv Natural Hemp Book Style case & stand for Asus Transformer Prime TF201 and keyboard - 'Chocolate' brown Review

After researching lots of cases for my Asus Prime, I decided to give this one a shot, despite the premium price. Here are my initial impressions.

Pros:
1. Well made of quality materials.
2. Extra storage slots for memory, etc.
3. Stand works well.
4. Different from the "boring" leather cases, but still conservative.
5. Hemp case significantly less than premium leather cases.

Cons:
1. Adds bulk to a sleek piece of tech.
2. Price (worth it for the added protection and grip, IMHO).
3. Dock is not secured when cased separately from the tablet.
4. Flap makes use of rear camera awkward (just about any case would do this and is a complaint not unique to this item).

Another con, which may be a deal breaker, is the strip of leather along the top of the tablet. It bunches up in a funny way and causes the front camera to be partially obscured. If I hold the leather down, it would be fine. A possible solution for Tuff-Luv would be to use two Velcroed leather strips instead of just one to secure the Prime. This would hold down the strap and would cause the camera cut-out to align properly. This may simply need a day or two with the tablet in the case to settle properly. I'm only 15 minutes from the unboxing process, so I'm willing to give it a little time.

As far as the other cons of the review, #'s 1 and 4 were expected before purchasing the case. I actually like the added bulk when just using the tablet. With the dock, it is noticeably bulkier and heavier than I'd like, but without the case, I was always afraid this thing would slip out of my hands. In other words, I find there to be pros that go along with these two cons; it's a tradeoff. Price is certainly a factor, but reviews of other cases for the Transformer Prime + Dock led me to believe it was worth the investment.

Con #3 is something I have to ponder for a little bit. I don't think it will be a problem, really, because I will probably not carry the dock by itself all that often, and I don't think there would be any way to secure the dock's upper two corners without interfering with the 40-pin connector and the USB port.

Overall, I'm pleased with this purchase. Aside from the bulk with the dock attached, it feels great in my hands. The tablet itself feels secure without the dock attached, which is a negative in reviews of several other cases. One thing that didn't initially stand-out in the product photos was the detail stitching on the front of the cover. It is only in the last of the images that you can see this, and it didn't jump out at me. Upon seeing it initially, I thought I would have preferred it not be there, but I do think it adds a little something to the look which I like now. Make sure to look at the photo to see if you like this or not before purchasing.
